Silent Hill news - nothing much to speak of. I see emails flying about with regards to trailers, promo art and all the other good stuff but there’s nothing yet for me to look at. And there’s certainly a world where my opinion won’t count for anything but we haven’t got there yet. People do still listen, which is nice. It seems that the distributors are getting their strategy together and allowing their marketing team to find a sense of how the film should be presented to the wider audience. I’m hoping to get a clearer idea of what these next few months will bring.

Sean Bean will be Harry Mason AND Chris DaSilva, and it WILL make sense.

ballpointkatana submitted:

I can understand how a few people would be confused with the news that Sean Bean is cast as Harry Mason in Silent Hill: Revelation, while he played Chris DaSilva in the first movie. Some may see it as poor, rushed casting or a cash in on Game of Thrones, but a little thought on the matter reveals alot more.

This isn’t actually news. its been around the net and fans have been talking about it on forums and the like. The basic conclusion is that Chris and Heather are on the run from the Order, just like they are in SH3. Instead of only Heather changing her name, Chris also changes his name to Harry. Its an alias.

Lots of you are asking about trailers and promo material. There’s nothing ready yet (as far as I know). There was an early cut of a trailer that I really liked but it hasn’t been approved and I’m sure that Open Road, the distribution company who are opening the movie in the US (and about to risk a lot of money in doing so) will have their own ideas and strategy. I’ve not worked with these folks before so don’t know how collaborative they are or even if they care about my opinion. In truth they have no obligation to do so and I’m no marketing expert – I don’t know the best way to sell this movie to a mass audience, I just know what my instincts say. Halloween isn’t so very far away and there needs to begin a slow build of interest and awareness to get us to a strong opening weekend. I’m as fascinated as you all probably are as to what this is going to be. I do hope we make an appearance at Comic Con though – I love that place.

So what happens now? SH2 has a release date in the US which is fab for my American friends but I’ve no confirmation about the rest of the world. My strong suspicion is that most of the other territories will follow on or around that date but it really depends on what they individually choose to do. Each distributor buys the film and is free to do with it what they please and I really have no control over that. It makes sense to me that they’d want to capitalize on the US promotional materials though.

Silent Hill has proven to be a powerhouse franchise. The fans have greeted each incarnation, including the original Silent Hill film, with great enthusiasm and we are confident that this latest project will be a strong addition to Open Road’s 2012 slate.
Tom Ortenberg (Open Road CEO distributor for SH: Revelation)

[Silent Hill Revelation] is a thrill ride that improves on the original in many ways. We take all audiences, new and old, deep into the world of psychological horror that is Silent Hill, and advance the story for those familiar with the franchise. We are thrilled to have Tom [Ortenberg] and his terrific team at Open Road presenting our film to U.S. audiences.

Silent Hill: Revelation Confirmed to Open October 26 2012!

^^fan made movie poster

Michael J Basset: “Hi there…. well some of you were of little faith but finally we’ve got a release date for SH2 and it’s a great one. Opening across the country on Halloween 2012. October 26th, to be precise. It was a tough one to nail down because there’s always so much competition on the great weekends and that’s why it took a while to make sure it was official but Samuel Hadida managed to make it happen. Power to him. We’re opening wide in the US and I suspect that the rest of the world will follow with releases are the same time. Expect trailers, promo materials and all that other good stuff to begin to appear quite soon.”

Variety reports that Open Road Films has acquired the US rights to distribute Silent Hill Revelation 3D and has plans of releasing the film around Halloween! This is wonderful news, especially since producer Don Carmody had feared it wouldn’t be released until next year… I am so excited!

Open Road has acquired U.S. rights to videogame-based sequel “Silent Hill: Revelation 3D” and plans to release the psychological horror pic around Halloween 2012.

The follow-up to 2006′s “Silent Hill,” which opened No. 1 at the U.S. box office and took in nearly $100 million worldwide, stars Adelaide Clemens, Carrie-Anne Moss, Malcom McDowell and “Game of Thrones” thesps Kit Harington and Sean Bean.

“Silent Hill: Revelation 3D” will be released wide October 26. Bean, Deborah Kara Unger and Radha Mitchell return from the original film.

In the sequel, directed by Michael J. Bassett, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father (Bean) have been on the run from mysterious and dangerous forces. She discovers she isn’t who she thinks she is, leading her deeper into a demonic world.

Vidgame maker Konami’s Silent Hill franchise has spawned a comicbook series, graphic novels, and merchandise over the past decade.

http://trialx.com/curetalk/wp-content/blogs.dir/7/files/2011/04/gcelebrities/Peter_Outerbridge-2.jpg

A year ago we heard a rumor about Peter Outerbridge (Mission to Mars, SAW VI) starring in SH: Revelation playing Travis Grady. On his forum he was talking about the character Travis Grady. Looks like the rumors must be true! Not exactly sure he will play Travis Grady but many websites are sighting Outerbridge as starring in Silent Hill: Revelation:

Actual video of Malcolm McDowell talking shortly about his role in Silent Hill Revelation which has been pushed back to an early 2013 release…

Fantastic! The character I play, is blind. Totally blind. Been in a prison for 30 years. This pathetic creature, sorta scary! But it is sort of like your nightmares, really. Thereabout for the grace of God. He’s lived in the dark all of his life, basically. And he’s blind anyways so he has lived in the dark. But wonderful character, great scene! fantastic! Visually it’s going to be stunning. Wonderfully directed, wonderfully shot. I think it’s going to be the best one.
Malcolm McDowell (Actor who will play Leonard Wolf in Silent Hill: Revelation)

Still deciding [release date], more likely for early next year. [2013]
Don Carmody (Producer for Silent Hill: Revelation)

Nothing on Silent Hill, I’m afraid. I’m waiting for something myself. Though I have to confess, it’s nice to have that out of my head for a while. Getting some distance from it reminds me now how much fun it was to make and how pleased I am with the finished movie.
