CONTAIN SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
Just watched the first film again with commentary.
In the commentary some interesting facts are revealed. During the final scene between Chris (Sean Bean) and Officer Gucci (Kim Coates) where Chris is getting back into his car, it is revealed that there was meant to be another scene with Officer Gucci which would have been the very final scene of the film. The scene would have taken place AFTER the scene where Rose and ‘Sharon’ drive home in the ‘ghostworld’.
The scene involved Officer Gucci going back to Silent Hill in the real world and going to the church. There he discovers the dead body of Rose clutching Sharon, who is alive. He saves Sharon and carries her away from the church, much like he did with the body of Alessa after she was burnt.
This would have implied several things (according to the commentary). For one it implies Rose crashed her car in the real world, got out and went looking for Sharon in silent Hill (real world). She goes to the church and finds Sharon there… However due to the “toxic fumes” that Officer Gucci mentions at the beginning of the film (would kill ya if you inhaled enough) Rose dies.
It also implies that the ‘ghost’ Rose drives home with is not in fact Sharon, but instead the ghost of Alessa… Thus it explains her reaction and eye contact with Dahlia on the steps of the church as they leave, and her odd behaviour when they arrive home. The real Sharon is instead being saved by Gucci in the real world and away to be reunited with Chris…
I believe this scene was NOT filmed… However it would make a cracking flashback or dream sequence for the sequel to explain many of the unanswered questions… Such as why is Rose a ghost in the sequel and Sharon (Heather) is not…
