Silent Haven

The contract period was taking way too long. I was approved and confirmed for the job in November last year. It was meant to start before the end of 2012. It just took too long and I need to work to pay rent and stuff, so I had to take other jobs. If it comes back and people still want me involved, that’d be great. Alternately, I’d love to tell my own Silent Hill story —scripted and drawn by me and everything, separate to all of the games, new characters, new dilemma, etc… There’s no release window as far as I know of. I don’t even know if it’s still going ahead. It was meant to be a follow up to Downpour, but that’s nearly two years gone now, and there’s no news on the horizon for new Silent Hill games as far as I know. I can see why IDW wouldn’t want to publish it now, given how far that window from the game has stretched, but I think it’d be interesting to see all the same.

Photography - Stanley Coleman

Based on Heather’s unseen admirer from Silent Hill 3. All of Stanley’s diary entries, as well as his part of the poem from the crematorium puzzle on hard mode, recreated and photographed. I tried my best to keep in mind the location of each entry from the actual game, while still taking some creative liberties. Basically, I’m super proud of how these came out and it was beyond fun making and shooting them all. I hand-wrote all of the entries in the notebook, and made the doll using two different thrift store dolls and fabric from an old t-shirt.

                              “INTERVIEW WITH YIYO-CHAN “

When did you first get into photography and what was your first piece?

Yiyo: mmmh, lets see…my first time was about, 6 years ago when I had to restart my hobbies due to life changing events.I was into traditional drawing, and crafting but I started trying out photography with a cheap pocket camera it was a canon!! Mostly took pictures of scenery and nature.

What made you wanna do video game themed photogrpahy? For example Silent Hill….

Yiyo: since i was a little girl i was always interested in videogames , obviously that was a long time ago and i remember i was always thinking….” HOW COOL WOULD BE IT TO SEE THINGS IN REAL LIFE THAT ARE TAKEN FROM THE VIDEO GAME WORLD “- years later i found out about cosplay and prop making thanks to the Lord internet but while i was unaware of these practices i was obsessed with the fact of people recreating those video game things. growing older i noticed the trend of people cosplaying rather than giving the “objects / items” a “main spot”. soo when i started learning photography I became more interested in this -prop making deal and how to create enviroments and moods. with just showing a little bit of certain item or location or even texture you can understand what game are you staring at.

Yes!! I noticed you have a thing for items!! Did you make most of them yourself?

Yiyo: yes actually, if memory serves me correctly, i ‘ve made almost everything , 95 %. depends usually since most of the games i love are horror- creepy - themed everything is old and withered. For the process i usually weather paper and materials “ WITH COFFEE “. lots of sweet nectar of god. most of the props i make are stained with coffee i use a cheap printer to memos and stuff. I also like drawing so i kinda imitate doodles in games ,crayon drawings and for the most complex things i go with cold porcelain and acrylics.

Do you have a favorite?

Yiyo: uuuuhhh hard one!!  oh my god that’s complex…….YES” I’M TORNED” the funniest was one i have from resident evil called professions because i dressed up like 6 times to get the 4 shots that compose it and take the picture with a timer because i had no remoteby that time. now as for the one i like the most could be “red diary” .

Favorite Silent Hill Game and Why?

Yiyo: AAAAH :D Silent Hill 2!! kinda obvious or typical it’s the one that marked a milestone i think, in horror games.

If you could bring a scene from any of the Silent Hill games to life which scene would it be?

Yiyo: Mmmh, the video scene from Silent Hill 2!! Why? because it would awesome to try to recreate all those bits  that you can’t actually see, but you hear. It would be a challenge to photograph such an intense scene with so little visuals.

Can we look forward to more Silent Hill themed photography in the future?

Yiyo:
EEEEEH. always ! though after making the Treasures Series that covered what people would call ” main ” titles. I think it would become kinda repetitive. I am aiming to make some more “obscure” SH photography of titles like the Mobiles that more hardcore fans of the saga will probably know about. I’d love to have more time to make props !!well more complex props… :)

Check out how one of my followers edited one of photos of Toymunkeys Red Pyramid Thing. I really like what you have done with the photo shop edit but please make sure you credit the original photographer’s photos. I usually don’t care about source when it comes to news but I look at photos as a piece of art. I just appreciate it for the future thanks!
